This red, broad bladed seaweed grows to 32 inches in length and is covered with small bumps and a deep red to purplish color in depths of water from 5 to 10 meters.  Found in low intertidal and subtidal zones Turkish Towel is sometimes used as a loofah and is a good source of carrageenan.
